 Provides the protection I was looking for September 10, 2010

As a new Kindle owner, I felt a need to protect the device with a cover of some sort. Although non-Amazon covers are beginning to become available for the latest generation Kindle, I decided to give the leather cover from Amazon a try. So far, it seems to meet my need. The leather feels good in the hand and gives the device a nice look. Some reviewers have noted stiffness or the inability to open flat, but I have not experienced any problems of this kind. It has also been easy to take the device out of the cover when I have wanted to read without the cover. Like others have noted, I wish the price point was lower but it does its stated job of protecting my Kindle and looking good while doing so.

I ordered the black leather cover along with the new Kindle WiFi. It really is a perfect fit for the device. The new Kindle itself is really small and light and this cover adds just the right amount of 'bulk' to hold the Kindle comfortably. The outside finish of the cover is made of good quality leather, while the inside has a soft felt lining - perfect to keep the device scratch free. The cover also has an elastic band (attached to the back cover), that you pull in front over the front cover to prevent the cover from opening. The design works well. The best part of this cover is the way the Kindle attaches to it - through hooks which go into the left side of the Kindle. This way none of the device is obstructed. Highly recommended for your Kindle.

The most recent one-star review of the Amazon leather cover for the Kindle 3 seems so unrealistic, and so determined to steer Kindle 3 owners away from the Amazon product, that I'm shaking my head in disbelief. Please ignore it. My own experience is that the Amazon cover is NOT flimsy, it is NOT cheaply constructed, and it offers as much protection against damage as any cover of its type possibly could.
In fact, I'm very pleased with my cover (no built-in light). I think it's well-made, good looking, and a pleasure to use. And to those who object to its cost: I don't think you can find a different brand of leather cover that's significantly less expensive, and many are much more expensive!
The only deficiency I can see is lack of protection against accidently pulling the right side of the Kindle case away from the back of the cover, which could damage the hinge and case. The five-dollar Smak-Dab Cover Secure Clip I've ordered from Amazon should take care of this potential problem very nicely.
I like my black cover so much that I've ordered a second cover in a different, less somber color: burgundy red.

I have always been satisifed with products ordered from Amazon, but this Kindle case was a complete disappointment.
The product is flimsy and cheap and offers little real protection for a Kindle. I would place the value of the item as no more than $8. The $35 price is ridiculous for the lack of product quality.
I am sure that you could get much more value for your money by purchasing a different Kindle cover.
If you purchase this item and decide to return it, you will have to pay return shipping ($3-4) plus lose 15% for having opened the package. Save yourself the time, trouble, and money and just find a better product.
