My Kindle spoted working in 3 days September 5, 2010 Gidu Kim (Seoul) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought my Kindle last week.
It worked pretty well for 3days, but suddenly stoped working.
It tried to reboot itself several times and gone.
It says now "repair Needed".
Well I enjoyed reading with Kindle 3days, and I liked it.
But I don't like poorly built H/W.
Don't know if I was unlucky or H/W has flaws.
Hope Amazon replace my Kindle soon that I can carry it to travel.
disappointed September 5, 2010 Persephone (NJ) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The keyboard is impossible-- tiny keys that are the same color as the case-- hard to use and hard to see. And the background is not white, but a light gray. This is worse than reading a paperback. I was looking forward to being able to read with larger fonts but with the gray background it doesn't matter. I will read paperbacks.
Almost need to perform reset (5 sec or 15 sec) on a daily basis. September 5, 2010 Travis rose (Austin, TX) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Got my kindle 3 on Aug 27. I really liked it. Even lured 3 of my friends into buying one. However, after a week of moderate use (so far, I only subscribed 2 newspapers), I'm not so sure about this device. Maybe I got a lemon. My kindle froze quite often. Yes, the experimental browser might cause the problem, but I'm talking about freezing while simply reading a kindle-version newspaper column. I can't count how many times I've done the 5-second reset. Usually it'll fix it. But just now I have finished the 3rd hard-reset for the week.
Other than this annoying bonus feature, it's really a joy to read on the latest kindle.
poorly designed controls September 5, 2010 John Prince (Ukiah, California United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Owning both the previous and current versions, I can state unequivocally that the latest version of the kindle reader has several hardware design flaws as compared the the previous version. Most important is the close proximity of the thumb wheel control with the "back" button. Unless you are exceeding careful, when you are attempting to move the cursor down the page for highlighting or to look up a word, you will hit the back button and the cursor will disappear. Hit them both at once a couple times, the the system will do a complete restart.
The last version controls were far more preferable, the little joy stick, the spacious size of the control area eliminated any possibility of this error. Also, the cursor control in general is too cramped for easy use requiring you to use your thumb nail instead of your thumb. The smaller more diminutive size while well intentioned leaves little physical area to grasp the newest Kindle all but requiring some sort of case which will obviously bring back the weight again.
though I can not say that the new version is more cheaply built, if feels that way, the previous version with a much better feel to it.
The screen brightness and clearer type lives up the the hype. If it wasn't for that, I would return this Kindle immediately and give it only one star. I also own the DX too and recommend this as a much better five star alternative if you can afford the price.
New damaged Kindle September 5, 2010 David Z. Joseph 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Hi. just received my NEW Kindle and the RIGHT side Previous page button and the RIGHT side next page button DO NOT WORK.. Wow, I am NOT HAPPY. I am upset with the quality control on this newest version of the Kindle. My previous Kindle2 never had this problem and was excellent. I called customer service and they will ship out a replacement; they, however, insisted I give them a credit card number to place a $1 hold on my account. WOW, sad, your machine is defective and I have to give you my number. Not exactly good service.........
